Middle East government department

What was the problem?

Our client, a Middle East government department, had been through a comprehensive programme of strategy development.  However, it had become clear that while the new strategy existed and was agreed at a senior level, there was not widespread awareness throughout the organisation and no clear implementation plan existed.

What did you do?

We recommended a ‘Strategy into Action’ (SIA) approach which would translate the top level strategic thinking into actionable steps, enabling the organisation to effectively work towards its goals.  The approach would condense the strategy into a clear, focused plan that set specific objectives and this would then be cascaded throughout the multiple departments to motivate and commit everyone to achieving the same set of goals.    

What happened?

The SIA methodology is malleable so we were able to adapt certain elements of the approach to ensure that the project suited the specific culture, size and structure of our client organisation.    The first step was to hold a seminar for the top team – many of whom were newly appointed – to bring key executives together and agree the strategic priorities in a five year balanced business strategy and a balanced business plan for that year.  With this agreed, and communicated in a clear one-page format, the process was extended throughout departments and to employees at all levels through workshops, seminars and High Impact Events. 

What was the outcome?

Our client is now in the third annual SIA cycle and feedback from the leadership team and the organisation as a whole has been extremely positive.  SIA has become an integral feature of how our client operates which has improved the flow of information between departments and has created vastly improved visibility throughout the organisation.  As a result our client is able to work towards ambitious long-term goals confident in the knowledge that they are on track to achieve them.
